The Haunting of Adelanto

In 2006, I decided to move out of the Inland Domain. It turned out to be a mistake due to various issues. I found a better-than-average home, a Spanish-style house built in 1993, in the City of Adelanto in the tall Desert.

Shortly after moving in, odd things started happening. My black and white cat, Sylvia, would sometimes sit close to the corridor passage and gaze down the hallway. It was as if she was seeing something or somebody. Each time I would go to see what she was looking at, I wouldn't see anything.

Many evenings, Sylvia would claw at my room door to get inside with me. It was to the point of meowing and pawing underneath the door in a frantic plea. It was so odd I always let her in, but I didn't understand why she was behaving this way.

One day, my son, Glenn, asked me if I had left any meat out that might have spoiled. I said no He was searching the kitchen for bad meat. There was a smell of spoiled, grisly, crude meat in the air, but there was no source that could be found to explain the odor.

This situation would come and go intermittently. You would smell it for a few days, then it would vanish and return a month or two later. Our dog would bark while gazing at the rooftop on certain evenings. There was also the sound of footsteps shuffling around the room carpet sometimes.

Other times, we would hear the doorknob moving. Things would move on their own, such as a hairbrush or toothpaste sliding from one side of the counter to the other.

One night, my daughter, Lisa, was jumping rope under the patio light, and I heard a blood-curdling shout. As I ran out to her, she was running inside, out of breath. She said she saw something on the roof—a huge, bushy, slouched figure with shining eyes staring at her.

We all experienced bizarre things that we couldn't explain at this house. I always felt like somebody was right behind me when I walked down the hallway. My cat was fixated on gazing down that hallway. It was a full year of bizarre occurrences.

As soon as I had the chance, I moved back to San Bernardino.
