A Summer Night Encounter in Angeles City

The author recounts a summer night encounter with their family in Angeles City, where they shared a room. They recall a frightening encounter with their mother, who seemed motionless and motionless, leading to speculation about a doppelganger.

This story takes me back to my childhood, specifically a summer vacation when I was seven years old. As I mentioned in my previous accounts, I grew up with my aunt and her family. Every summer, my parents, younger siblings, uncle, and grandmother would travel from Pangasinan to Angeles City and stay with us until the end of April, just before the school year began in June.

During their visit, my parents and siblings would share my room, as it was spacious enough to accommodate everyone comfortably. I can't recall exactly where my uncle and grandmother slept. Life in the province instilled early sleeping habits in my family, so by 10 pm, everyone was usually asleep, including the adults.

One evening, around 10 pm, my cousin stepped out of her room, perhaps to watch television. As she passed the kitchen, she noticed my mother standing motionless in front of the refrigerator, her left profile facing my cousin. Assuming she was getting water, my cousin called out, "Aunty!" There was no response. She called again, but my mother remained silent, then began moving towards the refrigerator, passing right through it like a ghost.

Terrified, my cousin rushed back to her room and stayed there for the rest of the night. The next morning, she recounted her experience, leaving the adults to speculate that she might have encountered a doppelganger.
